Rental handover records: what should they include?

A handover record documents what is present and its condition when occupation begins. It reduces ambiguity during maintenance or later return of the property without replacing the lease. Use specific descriptions and agree how observations and corrections are recorded.
Practical steps
- Record keys, meter readings, appliances and serial numbers where useful
- Photograph existing defects with permission and link them to the inventory
- Keep a copy agreed by both parties and identify the maintenance contact
